Snowdrop

Snowdrops are probably the very first flowers to peep their heads through the ground at the end of the winter, as soon as the snow melts. The small nodding, milky white flowers are bell-shaped and have green spots. They arise in frosty ground, multiplying freely over time. If clumps become too crowded, lift and divide them into smaller groups in late spring. They are great for indoor forcing, rock gardens, containers, mass planting, and borders. They are rabbit, deer, and squirrel resistant.

The Snowdrop, 'Galanthus Nivalis', is a fall planted bulb.

White Glory of the Snow

Chionodoxa is often called Glory of the Snow because they peep into bloom sometimes before the snow has completely disappeared. The star-shaped flowers are very strong and native to Asia Minor, Crete and Cyprus. Allow foliage to die back naturally to make these bulbs last for years. Naturalizes by reseeding, which it does readily, especially in a humus-rich soil. The plânts are deer, rabbit, and squirrel resistant.

The Glory of the Snow 'Alba' '(white)', 'Chionodoxa luciliae', a fall planted bulb, produce masses of open, star-shaped white flowers.

They are as well deer, rabbit, and squirrel resistant.

White Star Spring Star Flower White Star Spring Star Flower

These gorgeous flowers are six-petaled, star-shaped, and are sweetly fragrant. These white flowers make a superb acccent for other nearby flowers. The grass-like foliage smells like garlic when crushed. After a few years, if blooms begin to decline, the clumps need to be dug up, bulbs divided, and replanted to start afresh. This can be done at spring's end or whenever blooms have declined, or as soon as the grass begins to die back.
